Buildings Insurance

Building insurance AdviceOnly damage resulting from specified perils is normally covered by standard domestic buildings policy. Damage caused by other mechanisms is not.

There is an understandable inclination for insurers to repudiate liability in the absence of firm evidence as to cause or if the insurance company’s representative believes on balance of probability that an insured peril has not operated. In this case there is a need to provide further evidence that insurers have a liability or if this is not the case to establish the nature of the damage and to specify suitable repairs. Robert Beech and Associates have longstanding and detailed experience of subsidence and other structural damage and a full understanding of the domestic insurance industry including the procedures for the handling of claims. In the event of damage not being covered under the terms of the policy we are able to specify and arrange cost-effective and effective repairs using well-qualified and reliable local contractors.

We are able to provide an opinion on the cause of damage. We can advise on the cover provided by the policy and provide further evidence, by way of detailed investigations or monitoring of movement, to support a claim where appropriate. We can also advise generally during the claims process.

Reasonable fees, where necessarily incurred, are normally recoverable in the case of a successful claim.

We are able to advise building owners on suitable sums insured for domestic buildings and this information is normally provided as part of a building survey.
